What HeartSpheres can contribute to Healthcare managers, professionals and nurses
In a busy and stressful environment, how can we bring the best service to our patients and at the same time feel enriched by the work?
It seems that over recent years there has been a decline in morale of members of the caring professions; a feeling of not being valued where once a sense of vocation flourished.
Responsibility, self-management, and personal initiative, seem to be increasingly replaced by external protocols, rules and regulations; the outcome of a target driven culture. The financial crisis has added to the pressures by reducing human resources and leaving the individual with an increased amount of work.
Health care professionals, nurses, managers and administration staff may feel worn out by work at times, but when this becomes a chronic state they suffer from burnout. Burnout is a state of physical, emotional and mental exhaustion, caused by long term involvement in situations that are extremely demanding and do not provide the regenerating power of enthusiasm, appreciation, team spirit and sense of purpose. It is characterised by feelings of being emotionally drained (emotional exhaustion), the development of negative attitudes and feelings towards patients and colleagues and a growing devaluation of self-competence and achievement (reduced personal accomplishment).
HeartSpheres is founded on the recognition that, self-development and self care of the professional is an essential component in providing excellent care and therapeutic interventions. It helps to develop and deepen positive attitudes towards even challenging events and work situations, based on the ability to transform negative emotional responses into calmness, empathy and a sense of self-determination and empowerment.
Our workshops teach how to develop resilience and responses to presure that reduce the negative impact of stress, enhance performance and promote health. The techniques are based on the latest research about the heart (clinical chronobiology), the brain (neurophysiology) and the mind (positive psychology).
The heart-brain connection will be explored and heart coherence introduced. A better understanding of the physiological and psychological dimension of stress and stress reactions will be facilitated.
The workshops introduce practical, effective and easy to apply techniques that help master challenging situations as well as bringing a fresh and creative approach towards care. You will learn techniques to :
- develop empathy and therapeutic skills
- manage extreme emotions
- reduce negative impact of stress
- enhance performance
- facilitate clear thinking, and confident action under pressure and in crisis.
We offer courses for health professionals, nurses, managers and administration staff.

Assessment and training
In half-day, one-day or two-day seminars, we can teach these techniques to you and your colleagues as we have done for many others at SAID Oxford Business School, Academy Schloss Krickenbeck, Norwich Union, Linde Gruppe, the National College for Leadership in Schools and Children Services, the NHS and elsewhere.
In co-operation with the Edgecumbe Group we also offer executive leadership assessments with particular emphasis on leadership capabilities and handling of pressure. We use a wide range of well-validated psychometric tools to help us to analyse and measure talent, attitude and ability.
A health assessment based on a 24-hour ECG heart rate variability analysis can identify health risks and the impact of stress on the autonomic nervous system and help to further individualise the coaching process. For more information, please see Diagnostic.
